The world was on the edge between the earth toned seventies and the neon nineties, things were about to become one hundred percent more avaricious, and I was in this same little town, a twelve year old awash in the sounds coming out of my crappy little FM radio. Back then, choice wasn't something you had when it came to music. You sorted through the tunes troughing out of your radio, you taped the ones you loved, you hoped you got a clean version without the d.j. flum-flumming all over the start or finish.

And, amidst the last gasps of Led Zeppelin, the hits of the Little River Band and Minute By Minute period Doobie Brothers, in crept this swaying late night ditty sung by a slightly mushy mouthed, jazznick's girlfriend in a red beret, her biggest hit, based on a real dude who vanished from the L.A. scene because he had fallen in love with a cousin in Colorado.

And, over thirty years on,  it's still pretty darn cool, daddy. And that's good enough to make it your-
