Julia and John Oliver Question the Purpose of the STAAR Tests

We are finished with the STAAR testing for the year aren't we? Now anxious students, parents, and teachers await the results. Why do we put so much emphasis on standardized testing?  John Oliver wants to know and so do I!

Failing the STAAR test can mean summer school for an otherwise good student.  If you pass everything else and fail the test do you get held back?  What if you fail everything else and pass the test, do you move forward? Who picks the company that makes and grades the test?  Just a few questions I have. John Oliver has a few answers.

Go get em John.   It really doesn't seem fair to students or teachers to use those tests the way we do now, and by the way they spend a lot of time teaching kids how to take the test.  Say What?
