A 5-year-old girl had to cover up the other day after she wore some forbidden clothing to school.   The Houston kindergartner wore this to school.

Her dad, Jef Rouner, writes for the Houston Press, so naturally he wrote a column about it, (next column Jef, tell us about your missing "f").

Anyway the little girl went to school wearing her spaghetti strap dress, in her back pack was a t shirt and jeans in case she got cold.  When Dad picked her up she had everything on.  Say What???

T shirt over the dress and jeans under it. Why?  The kid says because spaghetti straps are not allowed.  As for the jeans on under the dress, even though she had shorts on,  Who Knows!

Daddy Jef got upset and wrote about how unfair the dress code is to girls.  He believes "every school dress code that is not a set uniform is about policing girls and girls alone".

The dress code for the daughter's school district, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, (page 37) says kids cannot wear clothing that shows their midsection, torso, back and chest, Jef says that prohibition is aimed at girls. The handbook also specifically says spaghetti straps are not allowed.

So what is Jef going to do if the little girl wants to wear her spaghetti strapped dress again?

Jef writes:  The next time the kid wants to wear her dress I'm going to let her, and I'm going to tell her that there's nothing wrong with it or her because she is dressed in a perfectly normal manner and cute as a button to boot. I'm going to tell her that some people think a girl who shows too much skin is wrong or dangerous, but that those people are, for want of a better term, lackwitted thugs living in a bad place. And if anyone tells her to change I'm going to advise her to ask why and to keep on asking that person "Why?" until she gets an answer she likes.

Going a little overboard don't you think Jef?  (I really need that other "f")

What do ya'll think?
