Diane Warren wrote tons and tons of big sloppy hit songs in the eighties and nineties. This is the only one that doesn't make me wanna track down Michael Bolton and short sheet his bed.

I think her real name was Stephanie Wunderman. In 1987, however she broke loose as overlipsticked, big haired power voiced vocal dynamo Taylor Dayne. Amidst the eighties audio brick-a-brack of chirping keyboards and big slamming compressed seven ways to hell electronic drums, her voice seemed to cut through the neon eighties tinsel and glitter like a...thing that cuts through stuff real good. (Sorry. it's late and my metaphor generator is on the fritz.)

After the barnstorming eighties electro blam and saxaphone scented lights out get busy tunes of her first album, today's song was something of a left turn. Slamming drums, a killer guitar solo and her paint removing vocals right up front in the mix. Hey, wait a minute, is this a rock song? Yes. please, and thank you. In actuality, this song was first offered to Tina Turner, so you can see the vocal shoes Dayne is stomping around in. (Nope, metaphor generator still broken.)

The song went to number four in March of 1990. Yeah, I'm fudging a bit on the whole eighties thing, but it was recorded in 1989, okay? It's a stomping good tune, and it's got lots of sing a long NA NA NA NA'S, always a good sign of a quality song.

And it's your K-101.7 SONG OF THE DAY!

P.S: Speaking of great women in music, how bout some JOAN JETT?
