Who knew this was originally a gospel song from 1966 done by The Art Reynolds Singers, on their 1966 album, Tellin' It Like It Is.

And the Byrds covered it. Ironically, one of the Byrds looks suspiciously like Michael McDonald, who hadn't even ruined the Doobie Brothers yet.

So, yeah, this song got around. The Doobie Brothers' version went on to become very popular among Christians during the early 1970s, particularly those within the hippie counterculture that were involved with the Jesus movement.

It's also ridiculously catchy and the album's back cover had nekkid women on it. YOOOO, SEVENTIES!
