The first week of June, these kids are done. School will be out. Then what are you going to do with them?  I suggest sending them back to school!I know that sounds cruel but it really isn’t.  This is fun school, there are no tests!  And if they would rather work, Fort Hood can get them ready for that. Here are the top three ways Central Texas is working to expand young minds this summer.

The first is Central Texas College: College for Kids.  Classes start in June and continue through August. Kids aged 3 to 18 can attend.  The courses include lots of hands-on learning activities. There's robotics, app building, Kung Fu, drawing, swimming, crime scene investigation (CSI), and a whole bunch of other classes. You may register your child at any time until the first day of class, but be warned classes are small so they fill up fast.

This last one is for young job seekers.  Every year Fort Hood hosts the Youth and College Student Career Launch and Career Fair.  Everyone can attend  but it's important to pre-register by June 8 for the Career Launch.  It’s a workshop program that has all kinds of information  on subjects like goal-setting, interview skills, scholarships, resumes and employment applications. It's free for those aged 13-22 . The Career Launch happens at Club Hood from 9-11 am on June 10. . Pre-register by June 8.  Call 254-287-66573 or 553 2216.

After lunch, from 1-3 pm on the same day, June 8, the Youth Career Fair will also be at Club Hood. This is a job fair for ages 16-22.  Job Seekers don’t HAVE to go to the Career Launch, and they don’t have to register. There will be jobs available in customer service, data entry, retail sales, warehouse.  These employers want to hire workers for the summer.  There is no guarantee of a job, but if the presentation is right, It could happen!   Civilians get a Visitors Pass if you do not have a DOD Sticker on your car.

Parents I have given you the info , now its up to you to convince these kids that college and working is more fun than sleeping til noon, playing video games all day, or getting water logged in the pool.
