I moved to Central Texas 13 years ago. I befriended a few lifer's and they taught me a few things that have come in handy. I also learned a few things about the area. This area has some cool history, and some horrible history. I never realized that in the real early days the Irish were not allowed in Killeen. They're were some other folks not wanted as well, but since I'm Irish, it's the only one that matters to me. It seems Bonnie and Clyde stole the car they died in from Temple. Wonder if that was covered by insurance.

Anyway, from my short time here I put together 5 things that you won't hear in Central Texas.

Man, It’s so easy to find a place to eat lunch in Killeen that isn’t busy.

The last time I went to Killeen for lunch I spent my time, and when I say spent I mean "wasted", looking for a restaurant that wasn't filled to the brim. I ended up just going home. I don't know how you people do it everyday.

The I-35 & 190 construction hardly effects the traffic at all.

I see this as a defense mechanism the human brain does when we are forced to deal with a horrible situation. If we don't adapt to chaos as the norm we would all go crazy. And some do.

It’s so nice to read about Temple in the Killeen newspaper, and vice versa

I find this hilarious. It's like the left side and the right side of the Twix candy bar factories. You see it the most in Sports. Good luck finding a Temple score in the Killeen paper, unless Temple played a Killeen team.

    Gun shots? What gun shots?

Pretty sure this is standard in any area with a military establishment. Combine that with open carry, booze,  and road construction, you're bound to get some fireworks.

    It's a buzzard!

    No, it's a Texas Eagle.
