Mesquite Police Department Adds Cowboy Hats to Standard Uniform

Honest to God. I though this was already standard in Texas.

It was National Hat Day on Sunday, and the Mesquite Police Department has added something new to the uniform. A Cowboy Hat.

Fox 4 is reporting that a majority of officers had already been wearing them, now it's an official option for all officers with 180 out 220 uniformed officers already donning the headwear.

The hats chosen cost $46 dollars a piece, but it was already part of the yearly budget. So if you're riding dirty in Mesquite, be sure to compliment them on the nice hats as they stuff you in the back of the police cruiser.
