Soul Train aired from 1971 until 2006, featuring performances by R&B, soul, and hip hop artists, just to name a few. I remember the show coming on in the 70's on Saturday afternoons, and it seeming like a steaming delicious plate of real food when compared to to the lily white plate of mayo and white bread that was American Bandstand.
And, yes, the show's theme song had a good beat and you could dance to it. It hit number one in the spring of 1974 and it stayed there for two weeks.
