Well, here's a peppy little tune to kick off your Monday!  If there's one talent Paul Simon has, one that directly feeds into his songwriting, is his supreme skill at appropriation, especially those song styles of ethnic origin. Doo Wop, blues, the music of New Orleans (the beat of "Fifty Ways" sharked from the shoe shine derived beat of ragtime) and especially African music. This has led to controversy and also massive freaking record sales and a fifty year career.

Back in 1980, Paul Simon wrote and starred in a movie about a diminutive rock star putting together a new album in the face of an indifferent record label, a talentless producer (played gloriously by Lou Reed) and at the same time struggling to save his failing marriage, blah blah yadda yadda. The highlight, of course, was the resulting soundtrack, which gave us the street party called "Stranded In A Limousine" and our song of the moment, which went all the way to number six in 1980, and is a fine example of Paul Simon's ability to swipe just the right elements from other people's music, right down to the killer Caribbean cruise ship horn section.
