One of the biggest bands in the U.K., the Hollies couldn't get the time of day or the watch to tell it from in the U.S. until 1966, when the song in question kicked the wall down, reaching No.5 on the Billboard charts in September. Graham Gouldman, later of 10CC, wrote the song while riding back and forth to his job at a men's clothing store on...yes, a bus.

"Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say please share my umbrella..."
