That mother and child/they reunionating!  Some say he's a singer/songwriter genius, others say he's a smug little hobbit who'll plunder every ethnic musical style that comes along.  Depends on who you ask, I suppose.

I do know that we have a listener here at K-101.7 who loves LOVES herself some Paul Simon, and that's why he's has been chosen to grace our little Song Of The Day dog and one trick pony show.

This was Paul's first solo single after the break up of his group with that one guy, name escapes me, had a voice like an angel? Yeah, him. The tune climbed all the way to #4 on the U.S. charts in 1972, was recorded in Jamaica, and was one of the earliest songs by a white musician to feature prominent elements of reggae. So, yay, Paul Simon. The song was inspired by Simon's grief over the death of his family dog, and the title was based on a  chicken and egg dish called "Mother and Child Reunion" that Simon saw on a Chinese Restaurant menu.

So, with members of the band Toots And The Maytals and Whitney Houston's mom Cissy on background vocals, now let us to enjoy please-
