Growing up in the south as a lot of us do, I know hunting is a part of our culture: My grandpa had two bucks in his living room and anyone who hasn't had deer sausage must be from up north. If we didn't have hunting, we'd have deer crashing through the dining room window. Also, shoot as many squirrels and rodents as you like.

Yet the story of the untimely demise of Cecil the African Lion is infuriating. The GPS- tracked research lion died because a rich a-hole dentist made so much money from the suffering in other people's mouths that he felt compelled to fashion himself a big game hunter. Not in the style of Frank "Bring 'Em Back Alive" Buck. No, he's a rich jerk who has locals set up a kill and then he shoots the trapped animal. Besides, who shoots a lion, a species which is hardly overrunning areas of metropolitan residential cities?
