I doubt anyone driving up to the drive-thru of a Taco Bell at 3 in the morning really cares about the "genuine" Mexican taste.  "It's either this taco or Hot Pocket at home", is how many trips to the Taco Bell drive-thru begin.

Mentioning this is in no way a shot at Taco Bell.  I love Taco Bell.  I can't tell you how many nights in college ended at the Taco Bell drive-thru.  I CAN tell you how many mornings in college started with heartburn thanks to those trips to the drive-thru.

My personal Taco Bell favorite isn't even available on a regular basis.  The Fritos burrito is an all-time favorite of mine.  The Double Decker Taco could be the greatest invention since heartburn medication.  I have never gone to a Taco Bell expecting authentic Mexican food.  If I'm at Taco Bell it's because it's late, I have a big stomach and I only have $10 to spend.  The fact that they wrap it in a wrapper and offer napkins & sauce is incredible, given the price.

In Texas we seem to take advantage of the fact that there's authentic Mexican food on every corner.  There are places where Taco Bell is as authentic a spot for Mexican food that can be found.  Sad, I know.  I don't ever want to live somewhere that doesn't have authentic breakfast tacos within three miles.  Terrifying to think about, really.

Take time to enjoy genuine Mexican citizens enjoying Taco Bell for the first time.  You'd have the same reaction if you gave an Italian Fazoli's for the first time or a Japanese fisherman HEB sushi.  You know what reaction you'll see, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining.
