Here's something for you folks who can appreciate a job well done in spectacular fashion.

60 years ago on this very day, September 30,  New York Giants center-fielder Willie Mays made what is widely considered to be the greatest catch ever made in baseball, with his back to home plate, running down a ball hit by a Cleveland Indians player in Game 1 of the World Series. (1954).

Let me paint the picture. Mays is running toward the fence, looking up at the ball, over his shoulder, and he catches it!   Yes, we have the video!

The score was tied 2-2 at the time. The play prevented the Indians from taking the lead and, in the bottom of the 10th, the Giants won the game on their way to sweeping the Series.

Of course there are those who would argue this is not the greatest catch in history, even Willie Mays would dispute the admiration.

But from my point of view, (a woman who never could judge the ball, they finally moved me to the infield), it was jaw dropping!
