Veterans Day History And Salute

This is a national holiday which was officially signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on May 26th, 1954. It was orginally called Armistice Day. But Congress amended this on June 1st, 1954, replacing Armistice with Veterans. Armistice Day was an older term for veterans of the 1st World War, and since this new national holiday recognized all Veterans, they decided to change the name.
