Two of our Temple High booth crew, namely Art Coley and Allen Roark, are also alumni of the University of Houston. When the Cougars beat the Sooners a few weeks back, they were on cloud nine. There are a lot of Cougar fans in these parts, and they were no doubt feeling the same.

Today, the media speculation is at full-fever-pitch that Tom Herman will replace Les Miles as head coach at LSU.

CBSSports.com has the headline, "Tom Herman leads list of 10 candidates to replace Les Miles at LSU."  Columnist Tom Fornelli split the candidates for the job in two categories, with two standouts and everyone else. Herman was at the top because "Every school in the country with an opening is likely to check in on Herman... [But] if Houston joins the Big 12 sometime in the next few months, it'll be even harder to pry him away."

That's what Cougar fans are hoping for. They shouldn't be surprised according to SI Online: "Herman has emerged as the hottest coaching candidate in college football after leading Houston to a 17–1 record the past two seasons." Success speaks for itself. And according to USA Today, "Many in the coaching profession believe Herman, of all the jobs he could take, has had his eye on LSU for a while."

Briles might be looking to up his profile in general.
