I freak out if I see a couple of wasps in the backyard, wondering where the nest is so I can destroy it! Imagine having a wasps' nest in your house, a really BIG wasps' nest!

Yes, that is a wasps' nest on a bed, in a bedroom.

It's in Winchester, England.  The woman who lives there alone, hadn't opened the door to this spare bedroom for some three to four months. Her son came to visit and found the nest.   It was three feet wide, on the top half of a twin bed going from one side of the bed to the other.

When you find wasps have set up housekeeping in a spare bedroom, who you gonna call?

According to the exterminator, John Birkett, there were about five thousand wasps living in that nest, and they were still building when he got there. Birkett was very impressed, he said this was the largest nest he had ever seen. He believes the wasps got in through an open window and used the bed as their home for nearly three months, chewing through eight inches of the mattress and two pillows.

Nobody heard them because wasps are very quiet builders..

Even though he didn't really want to, Birkett dressed up in his wasp killing clothes and took em down.  After two hours he managed to get rid of the wasps and even salvage the crocheted blanket they were nesting on.  (Ewwww!)

"That would be quite nice to keep," Birkett said of the massive hive. "They've worked really hard at this. But the [homeowner] didn’t think that was a great idea."
