The Water Pipe is Fixed, Now We Boil Water

Now that the WCID #1 water pipe is fixed and water is flowing again, area cities have to build up the water supply. Critical conservation measures remain in effect, and many of the affected citizens have been told to boil the water before consuming until further notice.

In Killeen that order is directed at all properties in the southwestern quadrant of Killeen. This area from SH 195 west to the city limit and US 190 south to the city limit.

Because of Saturday’s water main break,  water samples in this area must be tested before it is declared safe.   Killeen residents will be notified when the boil water notice is lifted.  Residents may call the Water and Sewer Services help line at 501-6319 with questions or concerns.

Fort Hood folks have also been told to boil the water.

Copperas Cove has NOT issued a boil water order as of noon today but check their website for the latest information.

In case you are wondering how the break happened.  This is the word from Harker Heights officials.

A contractor was trenching just after 2:00 Saturday and hit the line at the Water Treatment Plant on Lake Belton. The pipe feeds water to cities west of Lake Belton in Harker Heights, Killeen, Fort Hood, and Copperas Cove. The majority of the water coming from the plant was shut-off while the repairs were being made.

Residents were notified on Sunday afternoon to conserve water.
