I know that headline might have sounds of 'Happy Together" rolling through your head, but rest assured, 60s hippie icons Flo & Eddie will not be parking their smoke-filled chartreuse VW microbus anywhere near us. There's REAL turtles to be cheered. For a noble cause, naturally.

The 9th Annual Belton Kiwanis Turtle Festival is Saturday, April 30 at Yettie Polk Park in Belton from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Fun Day in the Park for Kids & Home of the Ultimate Turtle Race! (Is six hours long enough?)

By the way, the grand prize is A THOUSAND DOLLARS!

When I was a kid, I never had a turtle. How strange, considering I loved the little reptiles. My brother had one. Not for very long. Maybe if I go to the turtle fest my memory will be jogged.

Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Belton, Texas, the annual Turtle Festival is designed to positively impact children’s lives by partnering with community organizations, matching needs with opportunities, and fostering the development of key relationships.

For mom and dad, here's an idea: have a vendor selling turtle cheesecake! Mmmmm!
