Music: at the basic level, it's the stories around the campfire as the wolves circle the firelight. It's the connection we need to keep the darkness at bay, or to more fully embrace it, whatever. It's the tune that floats with you as you clock through the hours of your day. At it's catchiest, it's the delicious bubblegum you can't get enough of, you eternal twelve year old.

 

 

It's the song that raced through your mind and maybe out of your mouth as you ran home to avoid those bullies who were getting into hassling you on the way home.

 

 

It's the goofy song you'd play on the radio to let your d.j. wife know you were thinking of her.

 

 

it's the song that played on the awful hotel sound system as you went into your terrible hotel lounge d.j. job nursing a broken heart from a one-sided relationship you'd never really get over.

 

 

it's the first song you ever played on the radio, much to your chagrin.

 

 

So, when a person says that they never listen to music, or that a tune has never really wedged itself tightly into the fabric of their lives, I think that person was hatched out of a pod, and their soul is a cold, rocky place where the love of music can find no purchase. Or they haven't learned to appreciate this yet:
