The Air Show is almost here and one of America's historic aircrafts is making a return to Central Texas skies.

A former U.S. Navy PB-1W, the Commemorative Air Force B-17 Texas Raiders is arriving in Temple on Friday May 6! Returning to Temple’s Central Texas Air Show after an absence of several years, the Flying Fortress will be open to the public for tours and flights beginning Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM when the airshow gates open. Her first flight of the weekend will commence at 4:30 PM.

Texas Raiders, owned by the Commemorative Air Force, is one of just nine B-17s currently flying in the world today, and has undergone eight years of extensive restoration at a cost of over $600,000 to bring it into flying condition. When production of the B-17 ceased in May 1945, 12,731 of these planes had been built.

The popular Flying Fortress tours all across the United States on a mission to educate the public about vintage military aircraft and their role in U.S. history, most notably during World War II. The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was a four-engine heavy bomber aircraft developed in the 1930s.
