A search is underway for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Harris County deputy constable Monday morning.

KTRK-TV reports that Harris County Assistant Chief Deputy Clint Greenwood was shot in the neck behind the County Courthouse in Baytown around 7 AM. Investigators told KTRK Greenwood was able to radio for help, saying "I'm bleeding out." He was airlifted to a local hospital, where he passed away as a result of his injuries.

Authorities are searching for a suspect, and Baytown police are offering a $35,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Investigators have not yet determined if Greenwood was targeted specifically or, if that was the case, why.

Government buildings in the area and a nearby school were placed on lockdown as police searched the area for a suspect.

Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement expressing his condolences and support for law enforcement, writing, "Texas is taking action to strengthen penalties for those brazen enough to commit crimes against law enforcement, and we will send a message that such vile acts will not be tolerated in the Lone Star State."
