As often as I go to Wings Pizza and Things just off the HK Dodgen Loop, it was only recently when I made a turn into the neighborhood adjacent that I came upon Temple's location of the Ronald McDonald House charities. I had no idea there was a location in our city being the newcomer that I am. This weekend, The Temple Ronald McDonald House celebrated its 30th anniversary of caring.

It gets me choked up to this day to think of the children and families who have to deal with serious illness. A family directly across the street  from ours in the neighborhood where I lived in high school was helped by the Ronald McDonald House.  The circumstances under which that fine organization were able to give our neighbors care and shelter are something I'd like to keep private, I still get choked up thinking about it all these years later. At a time when people we loved needed it most, the Ronald McDonald House was there.

There is a very easy way  to help the Ronald McDonald house in its mission of caring. Simply drop your change when you go through the McDonald's drive-through and you'll be doing a world of good. I get a little bent out of shape when people start dumping on McDonald's.  Sure, it's comfort food. But no one is supposed to eat comfort food as a steady diet and only a moron would not realize this. But all of us deserve comfort and care when we need it, whether it's the taste of an ordinarily forbidden food that takes our mind away from the difficulties of every day life, or help when a member of your own family is facing a debilitating disease. In addition to providing tasty meals to many Americans as well as opportunities  for work and advancement, McDonald's in their charitable activities has set an example for all of corporate America to follow.  McDonald's has nothing to apologize for. (Except maybe the McLean Deluxe, that was terrible.  As terrible as McLean Stevenson in Hello Larry.)

Congrats to the Ronald McDonald house again and if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.
