Temple Police Chief has Sit-Down with Local Media

It's been a wild week for local law enforcement here in Central Texas. At the beginning of the week, the city of Cameron fired its police chief.  The same day, a Temple police officer was fired for mishandling evidence.

Police work is such a tough job and a common thread among police recruiters is that good candidates are hard to find. Temple police chief Floyd Mitchell sat down with Deborah McKeaon at the Temple Daily Telegram to address recruitment goals, managing his fleet, and other challenges facing him and his department.

In the Telegram piece, Mitchell acknowledged the department's personnel issues and their impact on the community's trust on the department, as well as his goal of transforming the department into one worthy of recognition from the Texas Police Chiefs Association.

"[The officers] want Temple Police Department to be the preeminent police department in the area," Mitchell told McKeaon. "I want us to be the preeminent department in the nation."
