Temple High School Football is Coming to K 101-7

After years of broadcasting on our sister station, NewsRadio 1400 KTEM, the Temple Wildcats are coming to K 101-7 starting this Friday night.

I'll be back on 101-7 doing football for the first time is a few years, and to bring the Wildcats to the FM side of things, we're very excited.  AM radio offers little coverage after sunset, and for those Wildcats fans wanting to listen to games live at the stadium, this presented a problem.  K 101-7 remedies that problem.  From Waco to Georgetown, Temple has games up and down the I-35 & Hwy 95 corridor, and Temple fans will now be able to hear the games at home and on the road.

Gene Pemberton is back doing color commentary for the 2014 season.  Gene's been calling Temple games since the 1980s, and he's seen quite a few of Temple's biggest wins over the years from the broadcast booth.  Gene's got a story for every occasion, and we pair him up with some all-time Temple High greats at halftime to stroll down memory lane.

On the technical (Geeky) side of things, the signal of our broadcasts will now rival those of anyone, college and beyond.  We've got a set-up that's going to make it sound like we're sitting right next to you, as long as I can get it to work week 1 (fingers crossed).

As for the Wildcats football team, for the first time in school history Temple won't be playing at the highest football classification in Texas.  The creation of the 6A football level leaves Temple behind to compete against former 4A competition.  This doesn't necessarily mean that a playoff team from a higher class the previous season translates into state championships (ask Copperas Cove).

Temple would've been competitive had they made the move to 6A this season, but now at 5A we'll get to see a healthy Chad President go to work.  Replacing the entire offensive line from a season ago takes away what was previously a strength for the Wildcats, but don't think there's not five more hosses ready to fill those shoes.  Gone are a few playmakers on defense that can't be replaced, but that's football nowadays.

Temple may have to score 60 from time to time to get the win, but they've proven more than capable of such a feat, even with a back-up QB for most of the 2013 season.  The entire season hinges on the future Baylor Bear, Chad President.  He showed enough to be offered a scholarship to play QB at Baylor before he even started a high school varsity football game.  Even with the injury that sidelined him for much of last season, Baylor hung with him, showing just how much potential is locked within the young man.
