A suspect is in custody after a shooting in Cameron left one man dead and two other people injured Sunday evening. One of the injured was a small child.

The shooting took place in the 1000 block of College Street around 6:30 p.m. Police say 53-year-old Ricardo Cruz Munoz of Rockdale shot 41-year-old Francisco Avila of Buckholts multiple times before fleeing. Avila was pronounced dead at the scene.

38-year-old Gabriel Rangel and an 8-year-old boy were injured in the shooting. They are recovering at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Munoz led police on a manhunt late Sunday night until being located in an outbuilding just south of Rockdale in rural Milam County. He was taken to the Milam County Jail, where he awaits arraignment for murder.

Judge Rick Gommert ordered Avila's remains be sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. The Cameron Police and Milam County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting with assistance from Texas DPS State Troopers and the Texas Rangers.
