In exchange for taxpayer funded support from government incentives, the largest company in the world promised to create jobs. According to a report in the Austin-American Statesman, Apple is on track to deliver those promises.

The deal: Apple has ten years to create 3,600+ new full-time jobs in Austin (and keep the 3000+ jobs they already have in the area) in order to snag $35 million in combined tax incentives from city, county and state governments.

One would think Austin being a liberal oasis in the middle of conservative Texas  that such a deal would be a no-go. But come on, who are we fooling: despite the image of hippies joined hand-in-hand singing "Kumbaya" nothing unites creative types like the glow of an Apple computer. I ought to know, I've been a Mac guy for 16 years now. More than that, if administered properly, these incentives exchange $35 million in tax dollars for a farther-reaching robust section of the local economy. 6000+ Apple employees making between $53k-$75k? Yes please.
