UPDATE 5:00 PM:

Killeen police have issued a news release with more details about today's incident at the Jasper Road overpass and the current lane closure.

As of 5PM, the overpass was once again open to vehicle traffic. Highway traffic was expected to remain closed until at least 6:30 PM as temporary repairs were made to the bridge.

At 12:13 PM, police responded to a crash on westbound Highway 190/Interstate 14 at the Jasper Road overpass. According to KPD's Alex Gearhart, police determined that a truck hauling a construction excavator struck the underside of the Jasper bridge, causing large chunks of concrete to fall on the road.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troopers with Texas DPS cited the driver of the truck with multiple violations, including and overweight and overheight load.

A minivan traveling along the road was damaged, but no injuries were reported.

Some minor crashes related to the congestion during the closure of a portion of the highway and the Jasper overpass were reported.
