I've been excited for new music from Queen, and I was intrigued to hear what the collaboration between the Doobie Brothers and country music's biggest stars would sound like.  The new Bob Seger album was not on my radar.  It is now.

I did something yesterday that I rarely do.  I took time to listen to an album.  OK, it wasn't an album.  It wasn't even a CD.  I listened to the album, beginning to end (OK, I got close to finishing it before getting too busy) on my computer.  I listened through my studio headphones, and I've got to say that I'm blown away.

After nearly a decade without new music, and without any relevance on the music scene since singing about Chevy trucks, Bob Seger has put together a terrific album front to back.  From some straight ahead rockers like "Detroit Made" (below), to some slower, blues-influenced tracks, Bob Seger sounds like a man 30 years his junior.

Maybe it's because there's only one great rock band still making music (Foo Fighters), but this is the best, and deepest, rock album I've heard in a few years.  I rarely listen to any more than a single track or two on an album, but I gave the songs a listen without much in the way of expectations, but I came away a renewed fan.

There's also the new music from the Doobie Brothers featuring country superstars, including the first track featuring Blake Shelton ("Listen to the Music") released ahead of the November 4th release.  The album is called Southbound, and being that I do classic hits radio AND country radio, it's a match made in heaven.

I've been looking forward to hearing new music from Queen on the upcoming album, .  Recorded back in Los Angeles in 1983 at around the same time as "Bohemian Rhapsody", the music is said to have the big symphonic sound that Queen used at the time.  There were a few tracks featuring Michael Jackson that the surviving members of Queen had to fight to include on the album.  The Jackson family didn't want the tracks out there... without big bucks.  The new Queen album, Queen Forever, is due out November 10th.

Also out on November 10th, the music I've been pining for the most... new Pink Floyd.  Again, same as Queen, it's not exactly NEW music, as half the band is either deceased or on the outs.  This music was recorded during the recording session for The Division Bell, and until David Gilmour added the vocals, they were just instrumental tracks.  The bits and pieces that have been released have been previewed by me in the past, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Pace yourselves.  There appears to be some great music coming, and as I found out with the new Bob Seger album, Ride Out, there's some music coming that we may not even know about yet.
