Fort Hood officials have confirmed that a man killed in a traffic collision Monday, August 1 was a soldier stationed at the base.

Spc. Logan Ellis Rainwater, 24, was fatally injured shortly before 9:15 AM at the intersection of Clear Creek Road and Janelle Street.

Authorities say Rainwater was riding his motorcycle north in the 9800 block of Clear Creek, and the SUV was headed south. The two vehicles collided when the SUV attempted to turn left onto Janelle in the path of the motorcycle.

Rainwater, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his vehicle. He was transported to Metroplex Hospital with critical injuries and later passed away.

The driver of the SUV was also taken to Metroplex with non-life threatening injuries. Police said he would be cited for failing to yield right of way, but there's been no word of whether or not he'll face other charges.

Rainwater, whose home of record is Albany, Oregon, entered active-duty military service in February 2013 as a motor transport operator.

Rainwater was assigned to the 154th Composite Truck Company, 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, which which he'd served since November of 2015.

Rainwater’s awards and decorations include an Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and Driver and Mechanic Badge with wheeled vehicle.
