A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 carrying 295 passengers was reportedly shot down Thursday in Eastern Ukraine near the Russian border, an area that is currently a battleground between the Ukrainian military and pro-Russian separatists.

According to the Interfax news agency, the plane was headed to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam. Malaysian Airlines posted the following tweet after losing contact with the craft, the last known location of which was in Ukrainian airspace.

Ukrainian activists have published a video they claim is of the wreckage, but there has been no official verification.

Malaysia Airlines made headlines earlier this year when another of its Boeing 777 jets vanished over the south Indian Ocean during a March 8 flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The wreckage of that plane has not been found, and an investigation of the flight's disappearance is ongoing. 227 passengers and 12 crew members were aboard that plane.
