Central Texas High Schools have received their grades. Who got the A, and who got the F.Congrats to Salado High School. They pulled an "A" out of the hat. They were ranked 175th in the state out of 1,159. Lampasas  pulled an "A-" and was ranked 290th, while Holland hit a B+ and ranked 316th.

Looking at the top schools, it's obvious they are not standard, tax payer type, high schools. DEBAKEY H.S. FOR HEALTH PROF in Houston was number one. What the heck is that? Other top schools have names with phrases like "Women's Leadership", "School for the Gifted", and "Leadership Academy".

The grades were calculated based on a number of indicators, such as STAAR reading and math tests, student achievement, growth index and college readiness.

I think we have to ask ourselves if our whole school system needs to be updated. It's

Shouldn't a student have the choice of college prep classes, or classes focused on joining the work force right out of high school?

Nice to think that every child will want to go college, but lets be real. College prices are out of control. Young men and women are graduating with massive debt, and are unable to find work in their field of study.

Why not focus on teaching a working skill in high school. I went to one year of higher education and it took close to 10 years to pay off the loans. I ended up going to a Broadcasting School, which was only 6 months long and I was working in my field within 2 weeks of graduating.

Shouldn't a student have the choice of college prep classes, or classes focused on joining the work force right out of high school? And the way banks attack children right out of school should be an indicator that a business education should be standard so they don't destroy any chance of owning a home in their future because they went credit card crazy at 19.

I have no kids, but for those of you who do I would think it would keep you up at night.
