Ladies, It’s Soccer Time as the World Cup Championships Begin

UPDATE: US WINS 3-1

So what is up with the Google Doodle?  Looks like a sport of some sort, looks like women are involved.  Could it be women's soccer?  Yes!  

The U.S. women's national soccer team begins it's quest for a third World Cup championship tonight when the U.S. takes on Australia. It's the first game for both teams and should be one of the best in the tournament so far. (I am just repeating what NPR told me).

Thanks to National Public Radio I learned the U.S. ladies are ranked second in the world and Australia is 10th.

I also found out that this is Hope Solo territory. Hope is the team's star goalie. I recognize the name because she was arrested last year for domestic violence. The incident happened at her half sisters house. Hope is accused of being drunk and  beating up the sister, Teresa Obert. and Teresa's then-17-year-old son. (The kid is 6'8'', 270 pounds).

Hope says she was the victim, but she is the one the cops took to jail. The case against her was eventually dismissed, but hold on, in a rare move the DA has appealed the dismissal.  ESPN has the whole story.  Now the arrest record has been released and it seems Hope can be a very mean drunk.

Let's hope she can forget about all that drama  and concentrate on keeping that ball out of the net.

First game tonight against Australia starts at 6:30.  Yes, it will be on TV, You can watch it on Fox Sports 1. The Americans have played the Aussies 24 times, and never lost (beating them 22 times and tying twice).

Nike has put something together for you, to pump up the volume for the ladies as they try to bring home the first World Cup Championship since 1999.
