IT. IS. FINISHED! Thank you TxDOT and the City of Killeen!

The Texas Department of Transportation signed off on the City of Killeen’s US Highway 190/FM 2410 project Wednesday, declaring it finished. The state now takes over maintenance of the road and continues state reimbursement payments to the City.

This project is part of the larger US 190 widening initiative from Fort Hood to Harker Heights. This $88.6 million investment is directly related to the highway's recent Interstate 14 designation. Movin' on up!

“City Council and staff had a vision of this project in 2008 and construction began in 2013,” Public Works Director David Olson said in a release. “It is a proud day for all of us at the City of Killeen to see years of hard work come to fruition. This project has helped improve daily commutes for our citizens and helped alleviate congestion in heavily traveled areas.”

The project was part of TxDOT’s Pass-Through Finance Program designed to deliver transportation improvements to the region. The program allowed the City of Killeen to advance-fund the project to accomplish it sooner and be reimbursed by the state over time. This funding mechanism was also used for the State Highway 195/State Highway 201 project, which was completed in 2013.

The US 190/ FM 2410 project raised the highway over the Rosewood Drive intersection, connected Rosewood Drive under the highway and widened FM 2410 from Stan Schlueter Loop to the Harker Heights city limit. Total construction cost for the project was $23,033,471.21.

Kudos for getting it done!
