Killeen police say a 16-year-old suspect escaped from juvenile custody Wednesday afternoon, and he remained on the loose Wednesday evening.

Police were notified shortly after 1 PM of the youth’s escape from Killeen’s Juvenile Detention Center, 4800 E. Rancier. He reportedly overpowered a detention officer, stole the officer’s keys, then opened a door and fled on foot.

Detectives say the teen is a suspect in several burglaries, robberies, and auto thefts and is considered dangerous. They advise anyone who thinks they’ve spotted him to call their local authorities rather than try to stop or apprehend him.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6’2” tall, weighing approximately 230 pounds. He was last seen wearing an orange sweat shirt and orange sweatpants and running westbound from the center.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477 or the Killeen Police Department at (254) 501-8830.
