Dave here, from The K1017 Poor Excuse For A Morning Show, smoothly easing around the curb with your Song Of The Day. Hits can come from the most interesting of places. Like this guy, William DeVaughn. He  was a salaried government employee as a drafting technician and part-time singer/guitarist when he wrote a song called "A Cadillac Don't Come Easy", which was eventually re-written to become "Be Thankful for What You Got", in 1972. He spent 900 dollars of his own money getting it recorded. The  record went on to sell two million copies on its release in spring 1974, hitting #1 on the U.S. R&B charts and #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

So slink right down in your chair, drape one arm over your imaginary wheel as you slowly cruise through a downtown street in your mind, your gangsta whitewalls gleaming. Awww yeahh.

Turn up the eight track. It's 1974 and this is your K1017 Song Of The Day, playa.
