Let's go surfing now, everybody's learning how, come on safari inland to Central Texas with us.

I know that's not the Brian Wilson/Mike Love-penned lyric you remember, but it's true.

Friday, the first inland surf park in ALL OF NORTH AMERICA -  called, not coincidentally, NLand Surf Park - will open outside of Austin. The brainchild of Doug Coors - yes, one of those Coorses from Golden, Colorado - who is not only a surfer but also an engineer, it brings the surf experience to an area normally bereft of such things.

One problem: the powers that be in local gub'ment said the facility had to meet the hygiene standards imposed on public swimming pools in Travis County. It seemed that this might be a dealbreaker, but Coors and Co. rose to the occasion and solved the problems. Boom!

I've always wanted to surf, ski and snowboard but those activities were not readily available in Texas or other parts of the south. The only people I knew who could do those things regularly were rich a-hole kids with trust funds. Plus, I was fat. I mean, seriously, no one makes a wet suit in my size and I sure as hell am not surfing with my gut hanging out. How can I balance with that resistance?

Fit people, enjoy your surf park.
