Okay for you guys who want the facts, Wikepedia did this report for us. Most of it is probably true.

Bubble wrap was invented in 1957 by engineers Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes in Hawthorne, New Jersey.   Al and Marc sealed two shower curtains together, creating a smattering of air bubbles, which they originally tried to sell as wallpaper.

Nobody wanted to buy it.   Three years later the invention was named Bubble Wrap and sold as packaging material by Sealed Air Corporation..

According to FastPack.com, Sealed Air is a leading worldwide manufacturer of numerous protective and specialty packaging materials with annual revenues exceeding 3 billion dollars.

Al and Marc and were inducted into the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame in 1993.  I hope they got rich!
