In the Wildcat Press Box Week 1: WILDCATS WIN, 28-20.

Good evening! The opening game for the fall season is upon us and we're here in the press booth at Belton High School as the Temple Wildcats take on the hosting Tigers, ready to get you live updates, courtesy of the K101.7 broadcast team.

I'm Allen Roark sitting with announcers Joe Palmer and Art Coley and we invite you to join us every Friday night in the Wildcat Press Box!

[UPDATE] After an hour delay, the teams are now beginning to warm up. We're live on K1017.

We are in the booth, and the teams are on the field warming up!!

Things to watch for tonight:  The big matchup is Temple's defense vs. Belton's high-powered offense.  Whoever wins that battle will win this one.  Another thing to keep your eyes on is the Temple offensive line.  Temple had to replace all 5 offensive linemen from last year.

Starting lineups being announced on air........

QUARTER 1:

Temple kicks it out of bounds on the opening kickoff.  Belton starts at their 30.

Belton picks up 4 on 2 plays to start the game.

The Temple D forces the punt after one possession.  Temple takes the ball on their 27.  Hextall, #1 takes it down to the Belton 15 on the first play on a quick out.  Personal foul called on Belton on the play.  Ball moved to the 7.  First and goal!!  Franklin over the left side for the Temple TOUCHDOWN with 10:26 in the first quarter!!!

The next kickoff, Temple kicks it to the Belton 5 and they take it out to the 23.  First play from scrimmage, 8 yards. WILDCATS with a loss on the play.  2nd and 16 from their own 32.  Incompletion makes it 3rd and 16 at the Belton 32.  Screen pass for 10, but that makes it 4th and 6.  WILDCATS force the punt.

Wldcats out to the 29 in short order. Belton's defense showing up.  Now 3rd and 9 at the Temple 29.

Temple runs a screen, Franklin takes it at the 28.  4th and 11.  Belton forces the punt.  Belton takes it at their 43. 5:54 in the first.

Belton gains a first down on 3rd and long.  Belton ball at midfield.  Another couple of plays and Belton is at the Temple 32.  Now 3rd and 9 from the Temple 30.  Wildcats force the 4th and 3rd.  Belton goes for it and gets the 1st down.  Now down to the Temple 9 yard line.  3rd and 4.  Peoples up to the Temple 3.  First and goal. Wildcats for the loss of yardage!!  Belton loses 11, tackle by Monto President, Jr.  3rd and 6. Timeout.

Temple defense forces the field goal attempt!! WILDCATS up 7-3 with 4:44 in the first.

End of the quarter, Temple Wildcats up 7-3.  Temple ball on their own 34.

QUARTER 2:

Temple ball on their own 34.  First play, incompletion. 2nd and 10, incomplete.  Attempt to Zach Rumfield. Belton forces the punt.

Belton takes a couple of plays and crosses midfield.  Belton QB takes it to the endzone.  TOUCHDOWN Belton Tigers.  10-7, 10:08 in the first.

Franklin takes the kickoff out to the 22.  First play, Webster goes 6. Quick out to Hextall, #1.  3rd and less than a yard.  Webster takes it to the 35. 1st down.

Webster picks up 2.  Franklin, #20, back in, and takes it to the house!!!  TOUCHDOWN!!!!  Wildcats up 14-10.  Now 7:55 in the 2nd quarter, sponsored by Bryan Dymke, Re-Max.

Belton drive getting stuffed at the Temple 34. 4th and long and Belton goes for it........  Belton calls the timeout.  Back, and Belton scores on a long pass by Mansel from the 34.  Touchdown, Tigers.

Kickoff taken by Franklin out to the 34, #20 Franklin with the return.  Hesse with a 9 yarder out to the Temple 43. 3rd and 1 now.  Belton jumps offsides giving the WILDCATS a first down.

1st and 10, WILDCATS at the 48.  Rumfield picks up 8 to the Belton 44.  #21 Webster picks up the first at the Belton 37.  Temple backed up.  4th and 15.  Temple punts. 2:39 until the half.  Belton ball at their 15.

WILDCAT defense  has the Belton Tigers at 4th and 5 on the Belton 20......  Belton punting.

ALLEN'S FINAL THOUGHTS:

The Temple Wildcats played a really good Belton Tiger football team.  The Wildcats played consistently, scoring a touchdown each quarter.  This was a great matchup between neighbors, and we look forward to next week at WILDCAT STADIUM where Temple takes on old rival, 6A Round Rock Dragons.
