All lanes of Interstate 35 were open Friday morning, a day after a tractor trailer struck a beam of the under-construction FM 2484 overpass in Salado.

Traffic was backed up for miles and being rerouted after Thursday's crash, which claimed the life of 32-year-old Clark Davis of Arlington and injured three others. After the crash, all southbound traffic was routed to U.S. 190 West to Killeen, then south on State Highway 195 to Georgetown. Northbound traffic was redirected to State Highway 29 East in Georgetown to State Highway 95 north to Temple. Those detours were cancelled Thursday night around 10:20 p.m.

According to TxDOT, a tractor trailer that was too tall to pass safely under the bridge knocked over two beams which fell to the roadway, crushing Davis' pickup truck and smashed the cab of an 18-wheeler. The bridge has a clearance of 14'1", which is 5 inches lower than average. TxDOT officials said three signs were posted warning drivers of the bridge's height.
