I had a family BBQ this weekend, there was plenty of food for everyone, but you know not everybody can afford a backyard BBQ.  The city of Harker Heights really wants to help those folks. They want to make sure families do not go hungry this summer, and they need your help to Pack the Pantry!

The Harker Heights Food Care Center is where those in need can go for help.  Because so many people need, help the center shelves are almost empty.  That is why the Pack the Pantry drive is starting three weeks early this year..

Last summer the drive collected 1,190 pounds of food, it would be great if we could collect even more this year.

Starting today, (June 15) thru July 31, you can take donations to several Harker Heights locations. City Hall, 305 Miller’s Crossing; Recreation Center, 307 Miller’s Crossing; Library/Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail.

Items that are needed include: Boxed and canned food, baby food, baby formula, baby diapers, toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, paper plates, napkins, and personal feminine items.

In addition to those items, what I do is look in my pantry at what I like to eat, then go buy extra to donate.

I know a bunch of folks helped out the flood victims down San Antonio way, it would be great to help out our friends and neighbors right here at home.

So let’s get together and Pack the Pantry at the Harker Heights Food Care Center!
