Welsh duo Waterfront takes center tape on today's Cassette Classic.

I got my first radio job in 1988. Part of my responsibilities was to load the new music onto the “carts”. Which was how music was played before CD’s started to dominate the market.

Now this was back before big business bought off Congress to make it legal for one person to own more than one radio station in the market. So the record companies had to work harder to get their songs played. One of the things they would do is send the radio station free music to give away.

One of the first “free” CD’s I received was from this next band. It was a British duo call Waterfront. The song was called “Cry”. It was a top ten hit, but because I got it for free, it was extra special for me. Back then I cared about the perks. Now there are no perks, and if one does show up, we get taxed on it, hence negating the whole “perk” tag.

It's just so sad, it makes me "Cry".
