No sooner has the Wall Street Journal heaped praise onto our fair state than the rival New York Times has scared the bejeebus out of people by pointing out a part of Texas is a haven for a creature of which most folks are genuinely terrified.

I'm talking about a creature many people see as either a flying rat or a blood sucker from the world of vampires. That's right..BATS!

That part of the state: yes friends, Central Texas. Specifically, bridges in Austin and elsewhere, as well as natural habitats like Bracken Cave.

They also like it under the Ann Richards Bridge. From one old bat to a whole bunch of others...KIDDING, JUST KIDDING! Fredericksburg is also a haven for the flappy mammals, as noted in this story's cover photo.

I'm actually impressed at the sight of these creatures. They don't frighten me because these people wouldn't be out there if these bats were flying towards them intent on sucking the blood out of their necks.

Then again, the CDC has this to say about bats. Well, okay, maybe some caution is in order.
