If you love old houses and properties, you know restoration can be a whole lot of work. The costs can add up very quickly. Owners of older properties might be able catch a break if they take advantage of available tax credits.

Temple's Downtown Development Office will host a Historic Preservation Tax Credit Workshop August 9, from 8:30am to 9:30am in the Historic Post Office building at 101 North Main Street. It's part of the ongoing "Summer Downtown Coffee Talk" series of get-togethers, which means snacks and coffee will be provided.

The featured speaker will be Brian Chandler, the City of Temple’s Director of Planning. During his presentation, he will discuss the Downtown Commercial Historic District and the associated Historic Preservation Tax Credits that are available to certified rehabilitations.

“Most of downtown Temple is located within a National Register Commercial Historic District,” said Mr. Chandler. “This provides incredible opportunities for State and Federal tax credits for revitalization. These tax credits can help businesses and investors leverage the private redevelopment of historic buildings.”

If you want to go, RSVP to Sherri Street, Downtown Development Coordinator, by Friday, August 5, by calling 254-298-5378.

These quarterly workshops are a good way to get informed about how to do business in Temple and other various topics of interest to existing business/property owners in and around the downtown, as well as those considering opening a new business in the area. You can't say the town isn't trying. Small business, Temple wants you!
