For those of you who want to camp, but don't want to pay for it.

Camping. I don't get it. People leave a home they're spending 30 years to pay for, to go out and sleep under the stars, or in a tent, or in a camper.

My family tried to get me to like it. My parents did their job and took us all camping multiple times. Hated it every time. The worst was when I got a case of the flu. The really bad flu. The two-exits-no-waiting flu. I spent most of the weekend in the community shower "releasing the hounds".

Then there was the Army. If you've been through basic, you know what I'm talking about.

But if you enjoy the great outdoors of Texas (and many of us do), then here are a few free spots for you around Bell County.

IRON BRIDGE - BELTON LAKE - MOODY TEXAS

Free. No entry or use fees. A couple of nice shaded spots w/o picnic tables. Those that have tables are in the sun. The water here is more of river than a lake. And it's also more of a fishing spot than a swimming spot.

OWL CREEK PARK - BELTON LAKE

Free. No entrance or use fees. Open year round.

WALMART

No really. Walmart wants you to park your camper in their lot. It's free, and you can shop.
