The fire began Sunday when a campfire got out of control. As of Monday evening, the fire was 75 percent contained according to a representative of the Texas Forest Service.

Around 40 firefighters from departments in Coryell City, Flat, Gatesville, Jonesboro, Levita, Moffat and Oglesby have worked to contain the fire. Some areas that are unreachable by fire crews will be left to burn themselves out or be extinguished by rain. Five homes initially threatened by the fire are now said to be out of danger.
