One of the most popular features on K101.7 each week is our visit in the K101.7studio with Walter Hetzel, Director of animal services for the city of Temple.  Walter always brings with him "Friday's Furry Friend Seeking a Fur-Ever Home." Friday's latest visitor was Maggie, a sprightly nine year old just perfect for those seeking canine companionship without the pent-up puppy energy. Check her out...

As charming as Maggie is, It has been pointed out by some listeners that none of our recent visitors was purr-fect by their standards. Specifically, we haven't featured a single cat.

Sufferin' succotash!

Guilty as charged. We have neglected our feline friends. We haven't featured them as we should, especially when you see these facts, as provided by Walter's website:

--There are approximately 64,250,000 owned cats in the United States.
--Three in ten (32,128,000) U.S. households own at least one cat.
--Essentially one half of the households own one cat; the remainder own two cats or more.
--Each household owns an average of two cats.
--Households with one child own more cats on average (3.5 cats) than households with either two children (2.7 cats) or three or more children (2.4 cats).
--Households contain more female cats than male cats.

So we wanted to let you know that we'll soon be venturing out of our comfortable confines to visit the tabbies of Temple. Walter did offer to bring a kitty with him into the studio, but having heard the phrase "like herding cats" we wanted to spare Walter the hassle. Oh, and this video came to mind...

So yes,  very soon and we don't know how frequently but we will regularly feature a feline who needs a home. But if you don't feel like waiting, you can look and see who Walter has in his house right now at The City of Temple Animal Shelter.
