Experience 80 Texas Landmarks Up Close With Google Street View
Texas tourism leaders announced Monday that Street View in Google Maps will be including detailed imagery of more than 80 Texas landmarks. That means you get to check out city landmarks and the natural wonders of Texas from your computer screen, hopefully enticing people to get out of the house and to enjoy what our state has to offer.
These new images will be courtesy of Street View Trekker, a backpack with a camera that creates 360-degree panoramic photos. Google Maps partnered with travel industry leaders from Austin, Houston and El Paso in order to develop virtual access to the nature in the lone star state, which includes hiking and bike trails, parks and more.
Pretty soon you can find photos of nature in Texas on Google Maps like Mount Bonnell in Austin.
"It's exciting to be able to offer never-documented imagery of Texas landmarks," Austin Mayor Steve Adler told The Chronicle. This is a great opportunity to showcase some of our city's treasures to prospective tourists and to locals planning area outings."
