 Become a Lifeguard!!

You will be taught the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to and provide care for aquatic, breathing, and cardiac emergencies.  You will also be taught the necessary skills to care for injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives.

Class Dates: December 29-31; March 16-18

Once you preregister for the course, you will be emailed a link that will take you to the online portion of the class.  Expect this to take around eight hours to complete. You will need to provide a course completion certificate at the beginning of your Lifeguarding course in order to continue. The class will run 8am-6pm Monday through Wednesday. Please bring a swim suit, towel, and plenty of water and snacks for the day.

Prerequisites:

1. You must be able to swim 300yds, nonstop, only using the front-crawl and the breast-stroke. (Goggles are only allowed for this part)

2. You must be able to swim 20yds, dive 10ft to retrieve a 10lb brick, and swim 20 yards back holding the brick with both hands in 1:40. (Sorry, no more goggles)

3. You must be able to tread water for 2 minutes without the use of your hands.

Cost: $205

The class fee paid to City of Temple is $175 and includes a pocket mask and a USB with a digital Lifeguard Manual and other useful information.

The certification fee is $35 and will be paid to the American Red Cross when you sign-in for the online portion of the class.
